Prevention and Management
Prevention and Management
Both overweight/obesity and the chronic illnesses linked to them are avoidable and treatable.
On an individual level, there may be ways to lower risks through preventive actions taken at different stages in one’s life, from even before birth all the way up through the early years of life.

- Support behaviors regarding healthy nutrition, physical exercise, sedentary behaviors, and sleep, regardless of whether the child is obese or not
- Reduce the time spent on the computer
- Reduce the consumption of sugary drinks and energy-dense foods while promoting other healthy nutritional behaviors
- Lead a healthy lifestyle (proper nutrition, physical activities, appropriate quantity and quality of sleep, no tobacco and alcohol consumption, good emotion regulation)
- Consume less energy from fat and sugar sources, consume more fruits, vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts; and
- Participate in physical exercise regularly.
