Physical Activity for Diabetes Prevention
Physical Activity for Diabetes Prevention
Regular exercise helps prevent and manage type 2 diabetes through several biological mechanisms:
- Improves insulin sensitivity: During and after exercise, muscle cells become more responsive to insulin, allowing glucose to move from the bloodstream into cells more efficiently. This reduces blood glucose levels and decreases the workload on the pancreas.
- Increases glucose uptake by muscles: Contracting muscles can absorb glucose directly from the blood, even with less insulin. This helps lower blood sugar levels during physical activity.
