Precautions
Precautions
- Check your blood sugar at least 30 minutes before exercise.
- If blood sugar is very low (around ≤ 90 mg/dL), consume 10–20 grams of glucose or a fruit and postpone exercise until blood sugar becomes normal.
- Stop exercising immediately if you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) such as dizziness, fatigue, or sweating.
- Exercise can be started if blood sugar is between 126–180 mg/dL.
- Aerobic exercise can be performed if blood sugar is between 182–270 mg/dL.
- Any changes to bolus insulin dosage (up to ~75%) should only be made under a doctor’s guidance with regular exercise.
- Usually, no change is needed in basal insulin.
- Exercise should be light and comfortable; always consider your body’s capacity.
